The KPM-mandated preschool curriculum is the Kurikulum Standard Prasekolah Kebangsaan Semakan 2017, gazetted by Curriculum Development Division (BPK). It is structured around six tunjang (pillars): Komunikasi; Kerohanian Sikap dan Nilai; Kemanusiaan; Literasi Sains dan Teknologi; Fizikal dan Estetika; Keterampilan Diri. Any Tadika (public or private) operating in Malaysia must register with KPM and align to KSPK. A 'preschool curriculum' that does not map to these 6 tunjang is operating outside the framework.
National, Chinese or Tamil primary: the feeder choice comes first
When you register for Year 1 (lodged in October of the year your child turns 6), you also settle the language the next six years run in. A National School, the SK, delivers everything in Bahasa Melayu. A National-Type Chinese School, the SJK(C), teaches in Mandarin while keeping BM and English compulsory. KAFA is the afternoon Islamic class: runs alongside, not inside, KSPK
KAFA, short for Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardu Ain, is the afternoon Islamic-studies class for Muslim children that JAKIM and the state JAIN together oversee, and it usually begins around age 6 or Year 1. Lessons are held at a nearby surau, at the masjid, or at a dedicated centre, well apart from the Tadika day.
