Edustar is hiring private tutors across Malaysia for every level on the KPM ladder, from Year 1 reading and number work through SPM and STPM, plus MUET, IGCSE and the IB Diploma.

Learners come to us for a tutor who knows the exam they actually sit, so we match you by subject, level and the area you want to cover, and you decide how many students you take and which evenings or weekends you teach.

You apply once with the subjects you are strongest in, finish your tutor profile through the link we email you, and every offer that follows states the level, the place and the hourly rate up front.

Where the fifteen tutor roles sit on the Malaysian school ladder

The strongest tutor profiles name a short, honest list of roles. Every role on this hub sits somewhere along one ladder: KSSR from Tahun 1 to Tahun 6, KSSM from Tingkatan 1 to Tingkatan 5, then STPM, matriculation and MUET on the road to university. Choose the stretch you know from the inside, the levels where you could write a fair practice question from memory.

Upper primary changed when UPSR was abolished in 2021, and lower secondary followed when PT3 was abolished in 2022. Learners at those levels are now measured through PBD, the school-based assessment, so their tutors follow the classroom topic list week by week. The weight gathers at SPM at the end of Tingkatan 5, where Mathematics, the three sciences and Ekonomi carry the heaviest load.

A separate lane runs through international schools. IGCSE and IB learners work to their own syllabus language, command terms and coursework deadlines, and they look for a tutor fluent in that vocabulary. MUET tutors meet a wide age range, from school leavers heading to university to working adults who need a band for a programme or a job.

  • Tahun 1 to 6 (KSSR): Mathematics, English, Sains, Bahasa Cina, upper-primary consolidation
  • Tingkatan 1 to 3 (KSSM, PBD): school topics kept steady week by week
  • Tingkatan 4 and 5: SPM papers in Fizik, Kimia, Biologi, Ekonomi and Mathematics
  • Pre-university: STPM papers, MUET, matriculation subjects
  • International schools: IGCSE and the IB Diploma

Your first teaching week after accepting an offer

Once you accept, ask the learner for three things before session one: the current textbook, the most recent school test or past paper, and the topic their class reaches this week. Plan the first lesson around that live topic. The questions where the learner hesitates show you where the next month of lessons should begin.

Home lessons start with a quiet table, good light and an agreed finishing time. Online lessons run on the video-call service Edustar provides, using your own device, a steady connection and a writing tool such as a pen tablet or a camera angled over paper. Test the setup the evening before, and keep every lesson on Malaysian time.

On the last lesson of that first week, write a few lines the learner can read alongside whoever signed them up, whether that is the learner themselves, an employer or someone at home. Name one skill that improved, one gap you will work on next, and the practice set you left behind. That note sets the rhythm for every week that follows.

Questions

Tutor Recruitment FAQ

Do I need to be IPG-trained or an ex-KPM teacher to apply?

No. IPG training or KPM classroom experience is welcomed and helps with pay, but it is not required. We match students to graduate tutors, undergraduates and experienced private tutors as well.

Is tutoring with Edustar full-time or part-time?

It is a flexible, part-time contract arrangement. You choose how many students you take and when you teach. Most tutors teach on weekday evenings or weekends.

Can I teach online, in person, or both?

Both. You set your own coverage area and decide whether you prefer in-person lessons near you, online lessons nationwide, or a mix.

How and when am I paid?

You are paid per hour in MYR on a clear, agreed schedule. Rates depend on the subject, level and your experience. See the pay table above for indicative ranges.

How do I apply?

Pick the subject, area or campus that fits you and submit the short application form. Our team reviews it, runs a brief screening, and then matches you with students.

Which subjects and levels can I teach?

Everything aligned to the Malaysian KPM syllabus and major exam boards (PBD from Year 1 to Form 3, then SPM, STPM, MUET, IB and IGCSE), across Sekolah Rendah, Sekolah Menengah and Tingkatan 6, plus Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin/Tamil vernacular and enrichment.
