Since the 2019 reform, PT3 papers are set centrally by LPM but administered and marked at school level under LPM moderation. This differs from PMR (which was fully external and terminated in 2014) and from SPM (which remains externally administered). Parents who sat PMR themselves should not assume a PMR-style exam day for their children.
PT3 is the upstream input into the SPM stream decision
Although PT3 does not stream students by regulation, schools and families use the PT3 grade map plus the PBD TP1–TP6 record to commit to Sains Tulen, Sains Gabungan, or Sastera-Ikhtisas at the start of Form 4. That decision locks the SPM paper set. Including whether Additional Mathematics 3472, Physics 4531, Chemistry 4541, and Biology 4551 are even available. Treat PT3 as the bridge exam, not a footnote.

Bahasa Melayu 1103 and Sejarah 1249 are the two SPM papers that, if failed, withhold the SPM certificate entirely. The Karangan technique and the essay-structuring discipline both start at PT3 level. A Form 2 or Form 3 student who is shaky on BM Karangan or on Sejarah essay scaffolding is at structural risk three years out. That is the highest-leverage rebuild window.
