The role

What you do as an Online SPM Tutor

  • Run timed past-year paper sessions remotely: the candidate writes on paper under a clock on camera, sends the script, and you walk through every lost mark against the skema.
  • Plan lessons around the KSSM topics for Tingkatan 4 and 5 and the paper format of each subject you take on, from Bahasa Melayu 1103 to Biology 4551.
  • Build the habits that move grades from C to A: answer layout, keyword use in Sejarah, full working in Mathematics and timing across each section.
  • Prepare your own worksheets, topical drills and revision notes, and adjust them as the candidate's weak spots change through the year.
  • Close every lesson with a brief written update on marks gained and papers still weak, shared with the candidate and whoever signed them up, and log the session so Edustar can pay you for it.

What we look for

  • Strong command of the SPM subjects you offer, ideally backed by your own strong SPM grades or a degree in that subject.
  • Working knowledge of the KSSM syllabus, the current paper formats and how LPM marking schemes award and withhold marks.
  • Clear explanation in the language of the paper: Bahasa Melayu for BM and Sejarah, English for English 1119, and either for Mathematics and the sciences.
  • Ease with a stylus, the shared whiteboard and screen sharing during a live lesson, on a device, camera, headset and internet line that you supply.
  • Reliability on Malaysian time (UTC+8), with weekly hours you can hold through Tingkatan 5 and right up to the SPM papers.
  • Patience with every kind of candidate, from a Form 4 learner meeting Add Maths for the first time to an adult resitting Sejarah for the certificate.
Pay

What an online SPM lesson pays

RM15 to RM45 per hour

That pay range covers every online SPM pairing, whether the Tingkatan 4 student is opening the KSSM chapters on quadratic functions and indices or the Tingkatan 5 candidate is timing full Paper 2 attempts ahead of the SPM sitting. Each offer names its exact rate for that candidate and those papers before you accept.

Why teach online

Why SPM coaching works so well online

Online SPM Tutor Jobs bring you Tingkatan 4 and Tingkatan 5 candidates, one to one, as they prepare for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia. You coach papers such as Mathematics 1449, Sejarah 1249 or Additional Mathematics 3472 over video, choose your own part-time hours, and teach learners our team matches to your subjects and schedule.

  • 1SPM is a paper exam, and a camera plus a scanned script lets you watch a candidate work under a clock, then mark every line against the official skema pemarkahan on a shared screen.
  • 2Candidates in Tingkatan 5 juggle school, extra classes and mock examinations, so evening and weekend video lessons on Malaysian time fit the weeks when tuition matters most.
  • 3Private candidates resitting SPM are often working adults, and an online slot after office hours is the format that keeps them studying through to the sitting.
  • 4Matching, invoicing and scheduling sit with Edustar, which leaves every booked hour free for Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah, Add Maths or the sciences.
  • 5Many candidates want one tutor across several papers, so an offer can name a subject set and give you steady weekly hours with one learner.
Your online classroom

Your online SPM classroom

  • A laptop or desktop, a webcam that frames you and your desk, a headset whose microphone carries every word of a Sejarah explanation, and a line that holds a full lesson on video.
  • Graphs, diagrams and full working for Add Maths, Physics, Chemistry and core Mathematics drawn live on the shared whiteboard, which calls for a pen tablet or a stylus.
  • A way to read handwritten scripts: the candidate photographs or scans each page, and you annotate it on screen while they watch.
  • A shared document for Bahasa Melayu and English essays, where you mark structure, vocabulary and grammar line by line in real time.
  • Your own bank of past-year papers and marking schemes, arranged by paper code and topic, ready to set as timed drills.
  • A quiet, well-lit space and a tidy screen, since every lesson is one tutor with one learner and your full attention is the product.

One hour with a Tingkatan 5 Add Maths candidate

The lesson opens on the script the candidate photographed after last week's homework. With the pen tablet you circle the exact step where a differentiation slipped or a log law was misapplied, and the candidate rewrites that line on camera so the correction lands in their own handwriting.

The middle stretch is new ground. You take one KSSM topic, such as vectors or linear programming, and build a worked example stroke by stroke on the whiteboard. Then the pen passes over: the candidate solves a close variant while you watch each line appear, stepping in only when a sign or a bracket drifts.

The last part of the hour is a short timed set in the Kertas 2 style. Before the call ends you agree the homework together, save the whiteboard to the shared folder, and write the session note while every detail is still fresh.

Seeing SPM working through a webcam

The hardest part of SPM coaching on video is the working itself. Across a table, a tutor sees a dropped minus sign the moment the pen moves. On a call the paper sits below the frame until the candidate holds it up, and by then three lines may already rest on the error.

The fix is a second angle. A phone on a small stand, or propped on a stack of textbooks above the desk, joins the lesson as a document camera beside the laptop. The main screen keeps the candidate's face, and the second feed shows the page live, so a Physics calculation or a Chemistry mole problem is corrected as it is written.

Essays carry the same challenge in another form. For Bahasa Melayu 1103 and English 1119, a shared document with version history lets you replay how a karangan was built: where the candidate paused, which paragraph they cut, and the point where time ran short.

  • Phone above the desk as a live document camera
  • Laptop camera kept on the candidate for explanation and questions
  • Version history on essay drafts to read the writing process
  • Photographed scripts annotated on screen while the candidate watches

Candidates who choose to prepare for SPM online

Many are Tingkatan 5 candidates looking for one specific paper, often Add Maths, Physics or Prinsip Perakaunan, taught by someone who knows it deeply. Online, a candidate in Kota Bharu and another in Miri can learn from the same strong Physics tutor in the same week.

Tingkatan 4 learners usually arrive in the term they first meet Additional Mathematics or Chemistry, when the step up from lower secondary feels steep. Starting early gives them a full year of steady work before the Form 5 rush, and gives you the time to build their habits properly.

Others train for state or national sport, compete in debate and robotics, or travel often with school teams, and a video lesson travels with them. Whatever the route, any SPM candidate may ask for a fresh tutor match before the trial examinations and Edustar makes that switch free of charge, so every student still on your roster has chosen to stay.

Settling into a weekly SPM rhythm

The first lessons with a new candidate set the map. A timed section from a recent paper shows which topics are secure and which lose marks, and that map shapes the weeks that follow. Organising your past-year bank by paper code and chapter early means each drill is ready in a minute.

By the end of the first month most online SPM tutors hold fixed weekly slots. From there the plan bends around the school calendar: heavier revision before school mock examinations, topic work in quieter weeks, and full timed papers as the real sitting approaches at the end of Tingkatan 5.

Questions

Questions from SPM tutors

Which SPM subjects can I teach online?

Any SPM paper you know well: the core papers such as Bahasa Melayu, English, Sejarah, Mathematics and Science, the science electives (Add Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), and commerce papers such as Prinsip Perakaunan, Ekonomi and Perniagaan. A single candidate often books one tutor for a cluster of related papers, such as Add Maths with Physics.

How is the pay set and how do I receive it?

Every offer shows its rate, and you see it before saying yes. The invoice goes from Edustar to the candidate's side, and your payment follows each session once it is validated. You never take cash from a candidate yourself.

Do I need to find my own students?

Our team does the matching. You tell us your subjects and available hours, and we bring you SPM candidates whose needs fit them.

Who are the learners?

Mostly Tingkatan 4 and Tingkatan 5 school candidates working toward SPM, plus private candidates resitting one or more papers, many of them adults who study after work.

Can I use my own past-year papers and notes?

Yes. Most SPM tutors teach from their own bank of past-year papers, marking schemes, topical worksheets and revision notes, and you are free to prepare and use them in every lesson.

How many hours do I have to commit?

You choose. The role is part-time, so your weekly hours and your candidate count are yours to set, and we match offers to that schedule on Malaysian time.
