Sibu, on the Rajang River, is a town where three exam systems meet in one tutor's week. Senior Middle students at Catholic High School on Jalan Lanang, Guong Ming at Sungai Bidut and Wong Nai Siong Secondary School prepare UEC papers taught in Mandarin, mostly in science and commerce streams.
Form 6 students at SMK Sacred Heart and SMK Methodist Sibu work toward STPM, with Ekonomi 944 and the sciences heavily booked. Form 4 and 5 students at SMK Bukit Lima, SMK Sungai Merah and SMK Sibu Jaya want structured Fizik 4531 and Kimia 4541 revision. Younger pupils from SJK (C) Sacred Heart Chinese and SK St. Mary come for Bahasa Cina reading and arithmetic.
Foundation students at University of Technology Sarawak sometimes add calculus or academic English. Sessions happen in homes around Sungai Merah, the old town near Jalan Channel, Salim, Bukit Lima and Sibu Jaya. Weekday sessions begin after the school day ends, and Saturday mornings carry longer revision blocks.
Demand rises before UEC in the middle of the year and again before the SPM and STPM sittings later on. Your first weeks in Sibu begin with each learner's latest school test: you read it together, fix a weekly time and name a target for the next term test. By the second month, sessions follow the school test cycle, with revision shifting toward whichever paper comes next.
